Goolwa Secondary College have formed a weekly group that includes an AAC user and focuses on learning about AAC (Key Word Sign, Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display – PODD), communication systems and visual supports, ways to integrate AAC in the school environment, how to upskill communication partners e.g. peers and school staff, inclusive communication practice and advocating for inclusive communities.

Over the last two years the group has learned about PODD and how to use it, added vocabulary into their peer’s AAC system, designed accessible communication resources, created posters about accessibility and inclusion, run a competition at school focused on the use of AAC to upskill peers, advocated for training for school staff around AAC, designed a communication
board and used it at a local café to educate the local community about AAC and how it works.
